Top Companies Withdraws From MWC 2020 Event Due To CoronaVirus
The Coronavirus effects now in the biggest event and conferences too, the event management team is yet to decide the health security of their participation and guest.
The Mobile World Congress (MWC) event will happen 24- 27 February 2020 in Barcelona.
Most of the companies have decided to withdraw from MWC 2020 due to Coronavirus disease.
Until Tuesday, a total of 9 companies have announced withdrawal for MWC 2020, including Intel, Nokia, Vivo, Sony.
The GSMA estimated at 492 million euros the economic impact of this edition of the Mobile and estimated that it would exceed 110,000 attendees, it is already assumed that it will be impossible to reach those figures, as per report.
In 2019, In 2019, Mobile beat a new record of attendees with some 109,000 visitors, from 198 countries, of which 7,900 were executive directors.
GSMA meeting this Friday at Barcelona, about the MWC event decision to continue or not.
In the latest announcement by GSMA,
"We are grateful for the preventative measures our Chinese exhibitors have put in place, notably ZTE and Huawei. Today, the GSMA is moving ahead as planned and will host MWC Barcelona 24-27 February 2020. While the GSMA confirm some large exhibitors have decided not to come to the show this year with others still contemplating next steps, we remain more than 2,800 exhibitors strong.
- All travellers from the Hubei province will not be permitted access to the event.
- All travellers who have been in China will need to demonstrate proof they have been outside of China 14 days prior to the event (passport stamp, health certificate)
- Temperature screening will be implemented
- Attendees will need to self-certify they have not been in contact with anyone infected."
Nokia cancels participation at MWC 2020 in Barcelona announced in Press release.
- Nokia has taken the decision to withdraw from MWC 2020 after a full assessment of the risks related to a fast-moving situation.
- Primary focus has been to safeguard the health and well-being of employees and others while also recognizing responsibility to the industry and customers.
- Nokia wants to thank the GSMA as well as the governments of China and Spain and Catalonia’s Generalitat.
"Nokia has been carefully monitoring the situation following the outbreak of the novel coronavirus, with the goal of making a fact-based decision related to our attendance at Mobile World Congress in 2020.
While the health and safety of our employees is our absolute priority, we also recognize that we have a responsibility to the industry and our customers. In view of this, we have taken the necessary time to evaluate a fast-moving situation, engage with the GSMA and other stakeholders, regularly consult external experts and authorities, and plan to manage risks based on a wide range of scenarios."
"The conclusion of that process is that we believe the prudent decision is to cancel our participation at Mobile World Congress. We want to express our thanks to the GSMA, the governments of China and Spain as well as Catalonia’s Generalitat, and many others who have worked tirelessly to address the challenges resulting from the novel coronavirus, and they have our full support as they move forward."
Rather than meeting customers and stakeholders in Barcelona, Nokia plans to go directly to customers with a series of “Nokia Live” events aimed at showcasing the industry-leading demos and launches scheduled for MWC.
