Apple will include two biometric authentication systems in 2021
- Apple’s 2021 iPhones are likely to come with both, Touch ID and Face ID.
- Apple has filed several patents on under-display fingerprint sensor.
Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo stated that Apple is working towards an iPhone that may come in 2021 with both Face ID and a new version of its Touch ID fingerprint scanner, without the home button. The company will also planning to launch iphones with a square shaped camera module this year in 2020 it will launch three 5G enabled iphone models with OLED panels.
TF Securities analyst Ming Chi Kuo released a report that Apple will bring back Touch ID fingerprint recognition to its iphones starting in 2021. Apple will release an iphone with both FaceID and under display Touch ID finger print biometrics.
Kuo says that Apple will use a variant of Qualcomm’s ultrasonic fingerprint-under-display system, which enables the user to place their finger on a large area of the screen to be scanned.
Kuo writes that Apple has likely made “proper preparations” for such a tariff, and he predicts that Apple will “absorb most of the additional costs” in the mid-short term. Thus, Kuo believes that “prices of hardware products and shipment forecasts for the U.S. market will remain unchanged” despite the tariff.
Kuo also stated that there are several technical challenges when it comes to under-display fingerprint scanner, issues such as power consumption, size of the sensing area, the thickness of the sensing module, and the production yield rate of the lamination process, but he also believes that they will be sorted by then.
