WhatsApp Launches Desktop Apps For Mac And Windows
Last year WhatsApp announced WhatsApp Web to give the flexibility to use the application on a desktop with an internet browser. The service was commended by users whose smartphones were not powerful enough to have WhatsApp working well, and the service has been developing every month.
Facebook-owned messaging app WhatsApp is coming to desktops. The company has declared that its apps are now accessible on PCs running on Windows 8 and above and for Mac OS 10.9 and above. Last week leakages had shown that WhatsApp was working a native desktop client for the two platforms. Till now WhatsApp web was the one option for accessing the messaging service on PC or MacBook’s internet browser.
On Tuesday, WhatsApp launched desktop apps for Mac and Windows. The new apps are available for download via the company's site and are compatible with devices running Mac OS 10.9, devices running Windows 8, and above.
With the introduction of desktop apps, WhatsApp is now available across all popular platforms in app form. WhatsApp's desktop apps have been released almost 14 months after the company announced WhatsApp Web that primarily marked the debut of the popular messaging app on non-mobile platforms.
To run WhatsApp on a computer, you will need to scan the QR code presented in the desktop app. The code scanner can be found in the menu on the WhatsApp main page on a smartphone.
The instant messaging service has turned out several updates since the establishment of this year. Just it added text formatting feature which allows a user italicise , bold or strikethrough text. The app had previously started support for document sharing, now rumors recommend it may start supporting sharing of ZIP and VCF files as well.
"Because the app runs natively on your desktop, you'll have support for native desktop notifications, better keyboard shortcuts, and more," says WhatsApp in a blog post.
