Apple Unveiled a Small, Cheap, and Powerful iPhone SE
On Monday, Apple announced its latest 4-inch iPhone device called the iPhone SE at an event in San Francisco to replace a similar-sized model released in 2013. The iPhone SE will-will go on full sale in India from April at Rs 39,000. The starting price is likely to be Rs. 39,000 for 16 GB model. The company is yet to announce the price of the 64 GB model for the Indian market.
The initially announced price was Rs 30,000 for the base model, which would have been very competitive in the Indian market. Apple also unveiled new accessories such as leather cases in Black and Midnight Blue, that will be offered at Rs. 2,900. The Lightning Docks will be available at Rs. 3,700.
iPhone SE has the 4-inch display, and same glass back and imprecisely industrial lines. It has got the same camera setup as the 6s, including a 4K video support and a 12-megapixel sensor. It is powered by the Apple A9 processor and the M9 motion co-processor, which is incredibly powerful and has a Fingerprint sensor built into the Home button.
Looking very identical to the iPhone 5s, the iPhone SE comes with the alternatives color introduced with the iPhone 6s - including Rose Gold.
The Apple iPhone SE will be available starting March 31 in select countries such as Canada, Australia, France, China, Germany, Hong Kong, New Zealand, Japan, Puerto Rico, Singapore, the UK, US Virgin Islands and the US.India is not in the list of countries where the phone would go on sale on March 31 but Apple said that the phone would be available in India in early April.
In the event at the company's headquarters in Cupertino on March 21, Apple has also launched a smaller version of the iPad Pro tablet. It has a 9.7-inch display while the original business-geared tablet has a 12.9-inch display. For US customers, the smaller new iPad starts at $599, down from around $800 for the original.
The 9.7-inch iPad will be available in India at Rs 49,900 for the 32 GB model and Rs 61,900 for the 32GB with WiFi + Cellular model.
Apple is hoping the iPad Pro - with a more powerful camera and processor - will give more customers an encouragement to buy a new tablet. It is hitting the market as Apple's iPad sales have been falling for several years.
At the same event, Apple also announced the improvement in the operating system with iOS 9.3 It includes Night Shift, which makes the screen warmer in color at nights.
