Droid DNA is a new flagship Android smart phone lunched by HTC with 1080p eye-popping display, 1.5GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4, 4G LTE connectivity and 2GB of RAM. Let’s see will the DROID DNA of HTC will bring it back to the market. Note that last year HTC was disappointed by its Rezound.
Hardware
Display
The display offered by DROID DNA is the best among all the available smart phones in the market. It comes with an impressive 441 pixels per inch Super LCD 3 screen of 5 inch in screen size. It has beaten the Galaxy S III and iPhone 5. Galaxy S III has 306 ppi amd iPhone 5 has the 326 Retina display.
Processor
The same Adreno 320 GPU and the quad-core 1.5GHz Snapdragon S4 processor used by LG in its Nexus 4 and Optimus G is used in DROID DNA.
Memory
It comes with 2 GB of RAM and with the internal memory of 16GB on board, but only 11 GB of storage area is available to the user. You can’t expand the storage space because there is no mocroSD slot.
Camera
The DROID DNA has an 8 megapixel primary camera with autofocus, LEAD flash, stabilization capacity and the f2.0 lens with the ability of capture simultaneous photos and videos. On the front there is a 2.1 megapixel camera which can capture a 1080 pixel video at 30fps.
Connectivity
Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n, 4G LTE, Bluetooth 4.0 with A2DP and NFC are the connectivity options which are included in DNA. For you the Qi wireless charging technology used in DNA might be more interesting.
Battery and backup
The DNA has used 2020mAh battery and can’t be replaced or swapped. As I play a video at 50 percent brightness it lasted for 5 hours and 28 minutes. It needs a mid-afternoon charge even on a moderate use. The battery will drain faster if you add the services like GPS, Bluetooth etc. It seems that the life of the battery used in DNA is good but not great.
Design
The DROID DNA is one of the thin handset which is easy to hold and carry. A curved glass display is used in the front of the headset which makes the touch smooth and a grippy battery cover at the back. Back, home and multitasking are the three touch sensitive buttons in the front. From anywhere the HTC’s custom multitasking UI can be lunched by the multitasking button. The power button has been placed on the top and is labeled with the case which may take your time to find it. The volume button is also flushed and is difficult or will take more time to find without looking at the phone.
Software
Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean is used in DROID DNA as the OS and it is overlaid with HTCC’s Sense 4. This is the same UI which is used on other HTC made smart phones. It has used its own distinct app drawer, custom home screen, lock screen and a totally revamped multitasking system.
Conclusion
DROID DNA has a gorgeous high-resolution display screen and a fast quad-core processor and a wide-view and top-notch featured camera which will be more attractive to the people who are photography enthusiasts. And those who use their phones for reading books, watching movies will love this smartphone with 5 inch wide screen.
